Welcome

You are entering the official web site of The Wagstaff Society. Our aim with this site is to link together people who have an interest in the history and Genealogy of the Wagstaff families. We try to make it a two way link with interested people who either are trying to trace details of their family or have information which they feel may be of further interest to the society.

Over time the spelling has been changed, either due to word of mouth, local accent, or written down incorrectly. Since the 1200's there has been many variations in the spelling, with such examples as Wagstaff, Wagstaffe, Wagestaffe, Wagstafe, Waggestave or Wagster.

Although the Name of Wagstaff originated in England it has spread to all points of the globe

Within this site you will find some notable Wagstaffs who have appeared over time, in sports, civil wars and court cases. You will also see what the society gets up to on our annual reunions, which are generally held in an area which had an association with the Wagstaff families in days gone by.

This website has been set up on behalf of the Wagstaff Society by Ian and Robert Wagstaffe.

WAGSTAFF DNA.

The Society has begun a genetic study for the WAGSTAFF (E) line to discover the connections between male individuals with this surname and their family trees. In this way we can all further our family history research and open new avenues by receiving a genetic “surname” that identifies us more closely than our surname alone ever could. The laboratory which we are dealing with is “Family Genetics” of Stockport, England and their website is www.familygenetics.co.uk

Interested in the Wagstaff DNA project, then please contact either: Ian Wagstaffe waggie95[--at--]hotmail.com or direct to Family Genetics info[--at--]familygenetics.co.uk
